I would like solarwinds to tell me if a FEX goes down or if a power supply on a FEX fails.
That's so embarrassing. I can't spell monitoring.
Why doesn't SolarWinds treat the FEXs as devices in and of themselves? I mean, they are individual chassis devices, with their own serial numbers, and probably even asset tags for your environment. They have their own power supplies, fans, and all the little ports on the front. I know it's probably difficult for SolarWinds to monitor them directly because they don't have their own IP address associated with them, but they are still devices that can be polled.
I guess I'm looking at things from more of an inventory perspective, but I do use SolarWinds as a way to keep track of all of my equipment. It's difficult each year when we do our inventory audit to have to find and count these devices separately outside of SolarWinds.
