Support for more than 1000 Agents per Polling Engine

I read that a single polling engine can only support up to 1000 Agents. This seems like a very small number. Would like to see a single polling engine support well over 10 to 20 thousand agents. Solarwinds is well behind in the game of scalability compared to other vendors. Either lower the cost of additional polling engines or increase the capabilities per polling engine.

System Center supports a maximum of 2000 Agents per-server, but I have seen many environments struggle to handle more than 800 per-server, and some as few as 400. SolarWinds estimates may be conservative, but they're reliable. To my knowledge I'm now aware of any management/monitoring solution on the market today that can handle 10-20k agents per-server with any decent degree of update frequency. Meaning, the less often your agents communicate, the more agents you can support. This is is how/why Antivirus Agents can support 10's of thousands, since they typically only report in once an hour. Monitoring agents communicate continuously, making scaling to 10-20k for a single server a near impossible feat. Just imagine a single web server handling 20k simultaneous and continuous connections. You probably can't, because no such site exists that isn't load balanced across multiple web servers.
