I would like to see Conditional Alert routing options in Trigger Actions.
Let me try to explain what I mean by this.
We have thousands of nodes in our Solarwinds environment. We have many many different departments who want to be notified only when there are issues with their devices.
This has led to a large number of very similar alert definitions.
Let’s take the simple Node up/down alert as an example. We have an alert definition for every department:
Alert Node UP/Down Finance
Alert Node Up/Down Development
Alert Node Up/Down Application A
Alert Node UP/Down Application B
and so on and so on
The only difference between the alert definitions above is an added check on a custom property value (Business Unit) in the trigger condition and a different email address in the Trigger Actions.
So, what I would like to see is a SINGLE Alert definition for (for example) Node Up/Down.
In the Trigger actions section I would like to see something like a “Select Case” option where I could chose different alert actions based on criteria, such as the contents of a custom property.
This me to route the alert to the correct department.
There would probably need to be an “In All Cases” option too, so that for example the Technical Infrastructure team gets all alerts.
This would make alert management so very much easier. And the reduction in Alert definitions would reduce the number of queries hitting the DB every few minutes.
We currently have 4 standard alerts that are applied to every Windows Node. Multiply that across 20 Business units & you have 80 Alerts, all testing for the same 4 basic conditions!
PS. I am aware of Alert Central, but it is not what I’m looking for.
