Mib Database sync/update feature in NPM settings area

This would be a quick and easy win for solarwinds and a nice automated feature to have. The idea is to have a sync/update button in the NPM settings area that could go online a pull that latest approved compiled mib database from the solarwinds site and install it instead of manually downloading it. Possible have a option to schedule updates that run automatically.

It sounds good. It'd make life easier for us end users, assuming we could get the right MIB's, and they'd be compatible with Orion and all its modules.

But I wonder how major it is for Orion to absorb these potentially frequent major or minor changes behind the scenes?

On the other hand, what a powerful security hole this could become, should someone post MIBs that have embedded negative things in them--viruses, Trojans, etc. We'd blindly download the infected MIBs and install them, and they'd deploy out to all our APE's, then to all our nodes . . . Uff da!

For now, I'm happy to trust and use Solarwinds provides.

i should probably clarify this a little bit better. the mib database i was referring to was the one that you currently manually download from the solarwinds website and that they compile themselves. i do agree that just downloading other mib databases would be dangerous. While it doesn't have to be the highest priority for solarwinds it would be a great feature for them to include at some point.
