There is a chart called 'Top 10 Nodes by average CPU load' which we use on our Network Summary home page. However we noticed this often displays incorrect information as it is supposed to be an 'average' of CPU usage. I opened a case with SolarWinds support as the data reflected in this chart is actually just the last polled CPU value (Case: 00058992). SolarWinds support escalated to development and I was informed that even though this is misleading to customers, the gods on the development team don't plan on changing this:
"The 'Top 10 Nodes by Average CPU Load' resource is considered to be correct by our Dev group, they consider this an average of the collected value from last poll divided by 1 so there are no plans to change this resource.
One data point divided by itself is not an average!
Join me in starting the revolution to get rid of this incorrect chart data and to display a real average of data (or change the name of the chart to "last polled CPU value"). Nothing worse than the boss asking why a server has an average of 100% cpu usage to reply with 'Solarwinds is incorrect' - makes us wonder what other features/charts are not displaying completely accurate data as well.
