Report to Aid with SmartNet

Question

Hello,

It's that time agian, time to renew smartnet.  We'd like to leverage our Solarwinds Tools (NPM, NCM) to help us get a report of all the devices we have managaged and their Serial Numbers.  I've tried using the Physical Entities report in NCM but we are getting a lot of blank space.  I also need to be able to export the report and get it into excel and haven't found a way yet.  If I try and have the report email, I only get 512k of data which is just a fraction of the report.  I also tried to have it save to a file with the same result.  I've got the report set to sort by a custom property of City and it seems it is only listing the first City.  We are currently running NCM 5.1.1.

Am I going down the right path?  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

To export report results:

* Launch the Orion NCM client application on your Orion NCM server.
* Click Reports > View Report.
* Select the report you want to export, and then click OK.
* Click File > Export, and then select the type of export you want. For example, click Export to Text File.
* Check or clear the appropriate fields, and then click OK.
* Provided a name and location for the exported file, and then click Save.
* Click OK on the Export status window.

Well that explains why it wasn't working for me.  :)

I did a little searching and looked at the OID that the information was pulled from and I understand a little better why there is so much white space.  Cisco presents a lot of data that isn't needed.

I ended up adding a UnDP to all my Cisco nodes in NPM then used an Advanced SQL Report to get most of the data I needed.  It doesn't report correctly for our VSS Chassis, Wireless Controllers (44xx), or the 3750 stacks but it gets most of the data we need and presents it very nicely.

* If you want to select specific columns to print, click File > Print Preview.* Check or clear the appropriate fields, and then click OK.
* Review the Print Preview, and then click Print.
