It is common practice to replace a server with the same name/IP address; especially in the age of Virtualization. To date, their is no way to remove interfaces or volumes from an existing Solarwinds object in order to keep certain historical information. This came to light when I swapped a Physical Server with a SAN attached LUN with a Virtual Server of the same name and IP. I wanted to keep the historical information on the RAM use and disk usage of the SAN LUN. This was important information to me.
I was shown how to clear the entries directly from the Solarwinds database but Solarwinds still "complains" of past resources that are no longer available. Exporting such historical information is really not much of an option.
