HP Switch Running Config Changes

Hi, this has been raised before by myself and others. Personally my last post got zero response.

All it needs is a script which executes the command

show config status

and builds a table of the results (changed/not changed). The switch tells you whether the config has changed or not.

NET-HP2510g-16-MOCO417g(config)# sho config status

Running configuration has been changed and needs to be saved.

NET-HP2510g-16-MOCO417g(config)# sho config status

Running configuration is same as the startup configuration.

Hi David,

I'm guessing that the 'show system status' and the responses that are returned from this command are probably Cisco IOS specific correct? Are there other device (Cisco or other vendors) which this is consistent with?

HI Steve, sorry I don't have access to Cisco kit any more - we only use Extreme and HP. It may be they have a comparable command.

There is the Cisco "compare run - start" activity which effectively does the same thing for cisco but it's a very long winded way of doing the same thing.

Alternatively, if this is too specific a requirement, how about a generic activity a bit like the "send command" one which sends a single command and looks for a specific string (both specified as activity options) in the resulting output and if it matches, sends the output to a report? There must be other things people want to do which boil down to executing a "show" command and then reporting on some of the responses depending on the output and it's all functionality which CatTools already has, just made possible without writing our own scripts?
