Need AWS RDS MSSQL Officially Supported as a DPA Repository

Hey Solarwinds Community,

I recently found out that an AWS RDS for Microsoft SQL is not officially supported by technical support from Solarwinds. I would like this to be officially supported as we are moving to the cloud and this would be needed to avoid another EC2 to manage.

I also found an article that talks about how to setup DPA on an RDS instance:

This makes me think that there may not be that much involved from a development and QA perspective. Hopefully a quick hit for a future release to support?

Updated the title to be more accurate. We do support monitoring SQL Server RDS, but we don't support it as a DPA repository yet.

That is true. You cannot install onto an RDS database. But... about a year and a half ago, I made it work by migrating from a repository server that we were decommissioning using the RDS migration process. There were a couple gotcha's that had to be figured out, but the basic process was:

1. use the RDS migration tool to sync the schema and data. This process does not handle all that you would expect, and I ran into problemsin testing because there were column defaults missing. This caused inserts to fail when the DPA connection was pointed at the RDS database.

2. Schema compare to figure out what the migration did not take care of.

3. Script those changes, & re-sync the repository

4. Add the missing defaults & update the DPS Repository connection.

The repository database only uses tables, no esoteric features, so migrating it was straight forward. This is not supported, but I can vouch that it is "possible"
