NPM Auto Discovery And/Or Filters

Have greater ability to run more details statements when using auto-node discovery to manage interfaces.

For example, I want to add all interfaces on a Cisco devices with a description "Important"

All Arista switch interfaces with an description of "User"

At the moment the auto-interface selection options are extremely limited, also limited to using "AND" operators and not "Or" operators. We need a filter, somewhat like the "Alert trigger condition" page where we can build out more intelligent rules. This means on a network with thousands of devices, we can have auto-discovery running across multiple types of nodes and interfaces, and have Solarwinds automatically categorise and import the ones we deem as important.

Another example of Orion missing basic logic.

We need the entire system to understand AND/OR and IF/WHEN/THEN/ELSE logic, for alerts, reporting and as you pointed out discovery.

I support this request. I make do with the options present, but they could be more diverse and robust.

Here's an example of how I keep Cisco 4510 Controlled and Uncontrolled interfaces from chewing up element counts and resources in my auto discovered monitors:

The dropdown in the second column is powerful, but I'm no logic master. Does the "OR" feature (requested in this FR) happen to fall in somehow with the bottom two options: "matches regular expression" or "does not match regular expression"? I suspect not. Therefore the discovery rule gets longer and longer as more conditions are added to match every possibility, where an OR statement could shorten it up.

The first column has some interesting, but apparently limited, options from which to choose:

For a more detailed usecase...

I would like to see an automated discovery per site which I can leave running at scheduled intervals. The filter options I would want would be something along the lines of

(Device Vendor equals Cisco AND platform equals ASA)

(Device Vendor equals Cisco AND interface description/alias equals uplink (or) crosslink or wirelesspoint)

(Device Vendor equals Arista AND interface description equals important)

(Device platform eqauls "firewalls" AND interface status equals up)

(Device platform equals CiscoWLC AND interface status equals up)

(Device vendor equals F5)

This would let me automatically select interfaces that are:

On a cisco switch and marked as uplink/crosslink/wireless points, all firewall interfaces (that dont always have interface alias available), all F5 interfaces and all Arista switch interfaces that match certain conditions.

Ideally, I would like to see the same logic thats built into alert manager (drop down options/fields) and logic of building nested And/Or options built into the discovery options.
