Orion Alerts (audiable)

Curious question, Is there a way i can play a sound on a remote machine? I want to load a water downed version i guess you could say for help desk staff that will play a sound or a popup when a node goes down or severe problem.

They currently get email alerts now but we are wanting to take it to the next step incase a email is over looked or deleted without someone looking at it.

You would need a script to trigger the audio playing on the remote system. It would have to be part of the trigger for the Node down alert.

The easiest way, if you are using Outlook, is to add a rule in "Rules and Alerts" that plays a sound file when an email arrives with certain characteristics.

Good luck getting this to work. I have been trying to get this to work (external program) for months - to no avail. I have tried all tips/tricks posted on Thwack...

I have been working with senior support folks who said that this is being looked at by development and I am waiting on the edge of my seat for a fix/work around. We desperately need this to work.

If you do in fact get it working please share!

I managed to get it to hit and miss on working....... I would like to see a orion version for a help desk that you could install a (non-changable) client that they could view active alerts and what not.

They are trying to automate the entire process which is very time consuming.

I finally came up with a method to send a sound file to a remote computer without using the web console. Not perfect, but it does work.

In Alerts, create an ‘Execute an external program’ ‘Alert Action’ to launch the following:

wmic /node:NODENAME /user:"DOMAIN\USERID" /password:"PASSWORD" process call create 'C:\windows\system32\sndrec32 /play /close "C:\orion\sounds\WAVEFILE.wav"'

The .WAV file needs to be accessible from the remote machine.

It’s a bummer to send the password in plain text, but at least it’s an option.

We have tried this on several web consoles and the audible alerts NEVER trigger.
It would be nice since many SW competitors web consoles do generate aubilbe alerts based on device type and event criticality. Each without significant progamming.

With my NirCmd in the content exchange you can even have the remote machine speak things from an alert action.

examples run from remote machine:

speak text ~$clipboard$

you can set the machines volume level remotely nircmd.exe setsysvolume 65535

you can open windows dialog boxes on the machine

do file operations

start or stop services / processes

you just need nircmd.exe in the machines path somewhere... but you can use nircmd to copy the exe to the machine and even add it to the path on the remote machine.

you can edit registry keys...

the list goes on. I've done some tricky stuff with this thing and it's FREE :}

The remote works like this:

remote {copy} [\\computer] [NirCmd command]

Executes NirCmd command in a remote computer. if {copy} parameter is specified, NirCmd will copy itself to the Windows directory of the remote machine. You must specify this parameter if NirCmd doesn't exist in the Windows directory of the remote machine.
Examples:

remote copy \\comp1 exitwin poweroff
remote \\comp2 infobox "This is a message from NirCmd" "Hello !"
remote \\comp3 lockws

You can also do multiple machines at once like this:

multiremote {copy} [computers file] [NirCmd command] Executes NirCmd command in multiple remote machines. if {copy} parameter is specified, NirCmd will copy itself to the Windows directory of the remote machines. You must specify this parameter if NirCmd doesn't exist in the Windows directory of the remote machines.
The [computers file] parameter is a file that contains the computers list separated by Enter characters (CRLF).
Example for computers list file:

\\comp1 \\comp2 \\winxp1 \\winxp2 \\nirsoft

The command specified in [NirCmd command] will be executed in all computers specified in the computers file.
Examples:

Turn off all computers specified in computers.txt
multiremote "c:\temp\computers.txt" exitwin poweroff force
Lock all computers specified in computers.txt
multiremote "c:\temp\computers.txt" lockws
Copy NirCmd to all computers specified in computers.txt, and then turn off their monitors.
multiremote copy "c:\temp\computers.txt" monitor off
Copy NirCmd to all computers specified in computers.txt, and run WinUpdatesList utility in order to save Windsows Updates info in all computers.
multiremote copy "c:\temp\computers.txt" exec hide c:\temp\wul.exe /shtml "c:\temp\wul_~$sys.computername$.html"

I need your help in a similar issue asked before how to enable the audio alert on solar-winds from the as the conversations i got to know the procedure but even then i have not getting any audio alerts
