On my network I have several Dell computers but all within a few defined models and with the same hardware per model. One of my difficulties with 3rd Party Updates is to filter the right driver update for each model and for each main component (Video, NIC, etc.) and also if it is x86 or x64. From Dell's Catalog you cannot filter the information of the update unless you open the Support URL and check the compatibility of the package. This task takes a very long time...
I know I can add packages to the existing catalogs but that would only add more entries to the catalog and make it difficult to find things or to manage them. Filtering with a custom classification within the Dell catalog doesn't seam right to me.
This example for Dell is just an example, I have other vendors (hardware and software) I could benefit from the hability to create that "Custom Catalog". A Custom Catalog would provide us with the hability to manage our own packages independently.
