ORION MAPS Feature Request- Disable Edit for Non Admin users who access an Orion Map via Widget

As stated in a previous Feature Request I came up with a work around to allow Non Admin users to view Custom Maps made in Orion Maps by utilizing the Widget for Orion Maps. Once the maps are entered using the Widget any user has the ablity to "Edit." We need this prevented to protect our maps.

Good idea. You should not be allowed to change maps from non admin account.

It's very frustrating that you allow Orion Maps to a non-admin, and they still don't see the created maps as the admin do. I can use this work-around of widgets to allow them to see the maps, but it's terrible they have the ability to change the maps.

@krc85aggie - Understood - so just to be clear - maps in a widget, you want to prevent the viewer from accessing Edit in the More menu. That is what this FR is for, correct?

@jamieinbox - We currently allow all users to create maps, but the maps that are created are only viewable to the owner. This is of course unless a) you are an admin and have the ability to toggle between owners to see different maps (in the map management page),

or b) This map is shared in a common place such as a widget on a dashboard.

Its a bit unclear what you are looking for. If someone attempts to edit a map they are not the owner of, they cannot save over the original map. They can only perform a save as. What you may be asking for is a separate feature request, and not the same as what @krc85aggie mentioned above. This request is to hide or disable the Edit button when in View Mode.

--> I acknowledge you're telling me a non-admin can't write over the map. Okay, good- it would be nice if the button said something like download & edit copy. It appeared to me the "base" map could be edited.

--> I see the displayed menus as common, as things are not displayed when we take away certain permissions. We can do what we need but it would be nice for the non-admin folks to use the menu, too. It's intuitive to drive down the menu & use the filter (like an Admin). We can work with the work-around.

--> If we could have it say "Download and Edit Copy" it would help my brain and maybe other brains, too.

@jamieinbox Thanks for the feedback. So what you might be saying is that users in your environment may all be going to the map management page to view all the maps? Therefore you want all maps to be public? Some users would prefer that not to be the case, however, you could always use the Custom Table Widget as just one example to create a list of maps. Ensure that the Map Name is used and the details link setting is added so that users can see the list and when clicking will be driven to the map in view mode. I did a quick crude example here:
