Ability to change VLAN, Speed, and/or Duplex on switch interfaces from the GUI

Although this can be accomplished via NCM, NCM provides a much broader ability that we do not want to provide everyone. The ability to change VLAN/Speed/Duplex is something everyone in the NOC can have access to, even the remote IT folks at a plant for instance.

This ability would be a time saver. No need to SSH into the switch, or move to NCM, just a quick pull down for available vlans and speeds and a quick fix.

This would need to be limited to layer 2 ports only. Or the ability to say which ports can be changed and which cannot be changed, like a "editable" check box....

Would fit right in with what staff in the NOC here are empowered to do.

Need support for NETCONF to do this on Juniper switches.

This one just came up in an internal discussion. The addition of UDT allows us to enable/disable a port, but its become important for us to allow lower skilled IT folks to be able to check and/or change Duplex, Speed and VLANS as well as enable/disable. This seems a natural enhancement to what is already there. Maintaining an audit trail is vital as well. We need to get some traction on this one.

As extrands mentioned, a natural enhancement to existing features.

I would like to add\suggest that this feature have an configurable optional approval option before the changes are applied, such as VLAN membership change, speed change etc. for security and audit purposes.

Especially if lower level\skill IT staff were to use it.

E.g. #1

lower level IT Staff makes changes to a port speed needs to be approved by senior IT staff\Network Administrator that would know if the change should be allowed based on SLA's or managed network traffic policies.

lower level IT Staff makes changes to a port VLAN membership needs to be approved by senior IT staff\Network Administrator that would know if the change should allow workstation access to resources in the new VLAN (e.g. Security Cameras or Payroll servers)
