Column filtering

IPAM really needs a way to filter for values in each column.

Case in point: We manage several thousand subnets assigned to various entities. If I could filter the list on the fly so that only entries matching certain values appeared, it would make the task of answering a simple question like "which subnets are assigned to this entity?" answerable.

It's to the point where we're working on our own web interface to the IPAM database. A real PITA, and probably not worth it in the long run.

I'd prefer not to post details here but would be happy to discuss.

not sure how this would be different from IPAM search option..can you elaborate?

If you click on the column name, does the "sort" option not help at all or do you need it across subnets?

I use the search to provide that with good results.

The IPAM search does not search custom fields. I have not found it useful.

We have thousands of subnets assigned out of our class B address block. We also have several other assigned class C’s. Sort is better than nothing, but practically worthless with this many subnets. I need a way to quickly determine which subnets are assigned to which entity, regardless of whether they are private (RFC1918) or public addresses. We manage and assign both.

Actually, custom fields are searchable, but it's pretty slow. I might try adding an index to the column. I really would like to be able to limit the search by type (supernet, subnet, group, etc).

What I'm really looking for is being able to quickly filter results in the grid, AND do in-cell editing as needed. The web interface has a very annoying behavior that refreshes the entire results grid and sets the record set to page 1. Heaven help you if you're working on page 9 and haven't noted where you are. Too much page scrolling! Really!!!!!!!!

I am not sure if this is what the person is referring to but when you do a search, it searchs for IP address and if all you real need is the subnet information it would be nice to tell the search just to show me the subnets that match the search. We use a 10.x.x.x address space for a VPN remote sites and the sites have /29 /28 and /27 etc. Luckily we only have several hundreds of subnets but sites close and the range is free up some we just have Custom field on the Subnet as Site Name and also use the Description field and change the value to Available but with search we cannot search those fields. So to find a subnet we have to scroll through the list to find if there are any available before we add another subnet to the database. It would be nice to right click on the column and search that column, the sort helps some . But there are other occasion where I just need to know the subnet and not the IP addresses.
