Currently, Advanced Alert Manager does not allow the ability to trigger an Alert based on total amount of traffic sent over a given amount of time (i.e. per hour, hours, day, week and month).
Reason for New Feature:
I'm currently working for a company that has a fleet of vessels. We have installed the Solarwinds Orion Server Platform with Network Performance Monitor and NetFlow Traffic Analyzer on each vessel. The vessel has two WAN connections both provided by satellite systems. One is a fixed cost satellite provider, we call our primary satellite network; however, this satellite provider does not have coverage in all parts of the world’s oceans. The second satellite service charges by the MB. This service is very expensive. We limit the types of traffic over this second satellite provider. We need a way to Alert the vessel Captain when they sent or received a total amount of data in MB for the last hour, day, week, and month based on the router interface connected to each satellite. This will give the Captain a way in real time, to better manage satellite services costs. This will also Alert the shore side IT staff if a vessel is using excessive amounts of network traffic over the second satellite service provide.
I know that Solarwinds captures this data per interface over a given amount of time. We just need a way to send an Alert in real time to the Captain based on this information from within Solarwinds.
Thanks, Larry
