We are looking for the ability to run monitors at specific times. For instance we have a SQL query that will tell us that a database has been updated with the latest data that we would like to run at 8AM daily but no other time during the day.
Have you considered using the Schedule Unmanage utility to unmanage this application throughout the day and only allow it to run for a predefined 5-10min period of time once a day?
That is exactly what I did but that is a little lame of a workaround. Would be nice to have a scheduler
Thanks
Tony
This would be nice. I currently have a monitor that runs a website check every 24 hours. If I do any maintenance on the servers, like stopping the services, then the schedule gets all messed up. it would be nice to have the ability to schedule it rather than fire it off manually at 8am when the schedule gets messed up.
This would be a really nice feature to add.
Yes, this is a much needed feature. I also have had issues where simply setting the interval in minutes is not very reaslistic. I would like to see some sort of ability to set regular intervals by minutes, but also days of the week or what days of the month so we can get more granular in how we schedule polling of SAM Templates.
Scheduling a monitor to run at a specific time is but just one aspect what is needed.(Needed horribly in WPM)
The topic of calendars and the ability to apply to all aspects of the product for maint. windows, alerts, monitors, etc..

This makes a huge difference in what you can do with the product....
All,
I have several Clients that would like to be able to schedule SAM Monitors on a Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Custom time frames for specific details. They do not want to fill up the DB with Data that isn't important to them except for the define time.

This would be really great, I could have it monitor to see if a file arrived at a certain time. Then I would also be able to monitor if the file is not there. This would be great for flat file transfer type of interfaces. Please put this into the file exists component monitor at the very least.
I can't believe this has been out here for years and only has so few votes. The ability to schedule a SAM application for a specific time would be fantastic. Almost every log monitor request I set up only needs to run a couple times a day and sometimes just once. My current work around is to add the times when the log needs to be checked to the scripts.
This is something that we are looking for as well. Although we have a scheduler built into our scripts that only reports what we want when we want, SAM is still collecting information every 5 minutes (our polling frequency).
We would like to keep our information so that we do not have to filter out so much useless information that does not assist in our troubleshooting of issues.
There are many aspects of this. Some monitors only need to check once per day or only within a short time frame say 5 or 10 minutes.
For the once per day checks, there has to be a reset. These may not need the 24x7 monitoring with alerts only in a small window. This does not allow for a
reset/re-alert if the file didn't exist from the previous iteration. Also if the file must exist at a specific time but gets pulled off a short time later it will show "down" for most of the day even though it isn't per design. In some ways the monitor needs to change as well. Beside a specific window, it will need a different value of which does not correspond to a down state....it is simply a metric for an object. The alert condition will determine if the objects metric is out of spec. Which leads off to another discussion about watching metrics and how values are updated, say from log file monitors, scripts, external stimuli such as a command line API.
Please add this feature, currently this is something HP OVO can do that SAM cannot. SolarWinds would make some new customers if they deployed this feature fast enough.
Any word on this feature request?
Any updates ? This would be a nice feature!!!
I would like the ability to activate a mute from a SQL Server Agent job. (yes a PowerShell script would be lovely)
Currently the alerts go silly because during the Database Check process all responses are slow/stopped and alarms go off and emails sent.
Likewise for other maintenance tasks that are variously timed and sometimes multiple on one server.
Can schedule it? Manually for each job? Where there are multiple schedules etc. NO.
I need the agent to be able to Mute the alerts - for a period or in two steps, eg. Mute On and Mute Off that is ok.. Too many emails devalue the alerts and they get ignored. this is an important feature that would save a lot of additional work by SW admins.
My 2cents worth.
This could tie into this request:
This would be a great feature addition. I have some templates I only need to run only occasionally.
BUMP....
This request is smart, it gives alot of options for Orion to be the manager of scripts that only run occasionally...
Some things would be far easier to do, and a much lighter load on the DB if this were an option. Buuuummmppp IT UP!
This just makes sense to include. This would be great for availability reporting that we need to do but I can't offer it as an option since they only want to include business hours. Bump for the excellent idea.
bump this and then go bump Calendars...they work together.
BUMP BUMP BUMP!
yes this should be an option.
5 years later and still wishing this was a feature XD
Okay... So why is it not already implemented? It is such a basic feature, come on DEVs you can do it!
