Feature request.
Has it already been proposed for warranty reports across the big 4 (HP,IBM,Dell, Cisco) for vendors?

Most customers today handle this through custom properties by adding a Warranty expiration field and reporting upon it. I'm not aware of any method to get this information from the device pragmatically but I'd love to hear any ideas you might have to make this process easier.
Not directly on point but very close is the functionality provided by Lan Sweeper, which we use for our desktop environment.
It pulls the manufacturer and the serial number from the motherboard then provides a URL link to the vendors support site like this......

Very handy just a shame you can't report it though.
It works how you describe it alterego. Spicework its the best example of I can think of who pulls this off extremely well in a multi vendor enivornment. Basically you call the vendor web interface grab the data then input into your db then make a custom report / alert for warantly status.
