Windows Cluster has 2 Nodes as member, Agent is installed on both cluster nodes where application connection monitoring is enabled based on installed agent. The window cluster has one SQL Role where we have one virtual client access name, This client access name (SQL Instance in other word) is added as node using WMI, almost most of monitoring is available through AppInsight for SQL template but there is one Application Connection monitoring is not available where It's showing agent installation is required (deploy the agent) though the actual cluster node where this client access name is online already has agent already, Ideally if underlaying node has agent installed the virtual client access name should show enable application connections monitoring not deploy agent to enable application connection monitoring because agent installation is not possible on virtual clients.
The purpose to enable SQL Cluster Role virtual client access name is to get detail of applications / modules connecting with SQL and to enable alerting (Email / SMS) accordingly based on criteria.
We have also DPA but this has limitation of in detail customization of Email / SMS alerting so that was the reason we are trying to enable application connections on virtual client access name under SAM.
Please help to evaluate / validate this scenario and get back to us.
