I had not fully studied and used the new web-based Alert creation tools until this week. There was some impressive improvements that I was not aware of and am now taking advantage of. Thanks SolarWinds...
One thing that I did not find but that would be useful is the ability to trigger Reset Actions based on what Escalation Level based Trigger Actions were triggered. For example, my Alerts are setup to notify the Support Team of an issue immediately in Escalation Level 1. After 30 minutes, if the issue has not been resolved or acknowledged, Escalation Level 2 kicks in notifying a Manager of the active issue.
Turning the page to the Reset Actions, when the issue is resolved, I perform actions to notify the Team and log that the issue is resolved. However I don't want to bother the Manager with this information if they were not brought into the issue (Escalation Level 2 was not triggered).
My suggestion would be to allow us to trigger Reset Actions based on what Escalation Level was triggered. Maybe a Reset Action configuration option of "If Escalation Level <##> was reached, trigger this action." where "<##>" is a drop-down menu of configured Escalation Level numbers and with that value defaulting to "1". On the main Reset Actions screen that lists all the actions, maybe an icon could be added to represent what Escalation Level the action is associated with so we continue to see the overall picture on that screen.
As a bonus feature, it would also be nice to have the ability to cancel an action if a certain Escalation Level was reached. Back to the previous example, if Escalation Level 2 was NOT reached, I would notify the Support Team of the Reset but not the Manager. I would also log that the Support Team was notified of the Reset. However, if Escalation Level 2 was reached, I would not do the previous two actions but rather notify both the Support Team and Manager, in one action, that the issue was resolved and log that both the Support Team and Manager were notified, in one action. So maybe another added option of "If Escalation Level <##> was reached, cancel this action." Of course, here again having an icon on the overview screen would be helpful for the full picture.
Maybe both of these could be added under an "Execution settings" section for Reset Action configurations similar to that same named section for Trigger Actions.
