Can we get a feature to retire the asset as opposed to just not monitoring them? That way we can check retired and then it would stop monitoring and still retain any history for the device.
How would this feature differ from unmanaging the node?
Retirement allows for a separate replacement device with the same name/IP.
This is a great idea, but my need would differ slightly and maybe it could be combined.
We need to replace/upgrade devices on a regular basis. When we do this we lose all the history because all the interfaces may change and the system itself many times requires a new node creation rather then allowing a rediscovery.
We need to show graphs that show the traffic patterns at each site. this gets ruined when we upgrade.
Retiring a system helps maintain that old data, but it is still in a separate table/field and will not be on the graph. But if that data could be "Moved" to the new system via an "UPGRADE" option then we could maintain the 'site's' data rather then the nodes data....
Also if you retire the device you do not have to set a date.
Clunky but we are able to keep the device history by assigning it an IP from within a bunch of loopbacks on the local host, and using a Custom Property of 'decommisioned' that only the admin/s get to see.
This helps keep other users screens less cluttered.Definitely voting up though
Vote this data warehouse feature as well since this could all be done together: http://thwack.solarwinds.com/ideas/2637
