In Orion SolarWinds are two tools in NCM we’d like to use together (Baseline Manager, RealTime Config Manager), but they appear to use the same Comparison Criteria for their logic.
If you use the comparison criteria for one tool it limits the use of the other.
Example:
Using RCM’s Baseline Manager I have set up a baseline for our Cisco 3800 series switches.
In order to ignore lines that include interface I have built a rule in the comparison criteria page to ignore all lines between “^interface” and “!”
This allows us to create a baseline for a set of devices that checks for specific lines of the config without showing “Mismatched Lines” due to interfaces being different.
When using RTCM we would like to know when changes are made to any part of a devices configuration, including interfaces.
Due to RTCM using the same comparison criteria list as RCM baseline manager we do not get notified when an interface has been changed.
What we’re asking for is a separate comparison criteria for the two tools or possibly the ability to create different comparison criteria lists. Both of these options would work well to expand the capabilities of NCM and RTCM.
Examples
Two separate tabs. NCM Baseline Comparison Criteria, RTCM Comparison Criteria
or
Comparison Criteria lists that can then be selected by RTCM, or by each baseline under the “Mark up baseline” section.
