I love the volume capacity forecasting feature, but it's not smart enough to be reliable, especially for alerting.
Improving it shouldn't take much. Admins should be able to globally set the sample period that forecasting uses to predict growth. For example, in our case, we'd probably use just the last three months to determine current trend.
Additionally, we should be able to tell forecasting to ignore new volumes for a specified period of time. This would prevent new volumes, which often start at 0% and go to 30-50% during their first month, from triggering alerts about hitting capacity in a matter of weeks.
Some of this functionality must already exist, as it's available in the volume capacity forecast page element. It doesn't appear to be available in the volume capacity forecast alert, though.
