Orion Alert Manager - Trigger/Reset Action Groups

Didn't see where there this has been requested. I apologize if it has. It would be awesome if SW would create trigger/reset action groups for things like email / sms where that information is entered in ONE place within alert manger and the group/template is applied to the alerts when needed. That way one doesn't have to TOUCH each alert rule every time email or SMS information changes. Of course this wouldn't need to be limited to 'send email/page'. action That's just my selfish need. :-)

I agree. In the meantime, if I'm understanding your request correctly, you can use Custom Property fields for storing phone numbers, email addresses, and SMS email addresses for each node. We have custom properties called PrimaryContact1, PrimaryContact2, and PrimaryContact3 as well as PrimarySMS1, PrimarySMS2, and PrimarySMS3 that we keep email and SMS addresses in. With the ease of manipulating data in the Custom Property editor, and good Alert email message templates pre-written, we are able to keep alerting pretty clean. Just simply edit a Node's PrimaryContact and PrimarySMS fields whenever a node assignment changes to a different person and you are done, no Alert changes needed, unless the new person has some kind of new request that has different trigger conditions than the current ones. Those should be exceptions though and not the norm.

What I voted your request up for is for Alert templates. I would like to see Alert Triggers and Actions be assignable just like Application Monitors are. I know you can (and we do this) Import and Export Trigger Actions and Reset Actions, but it isn't quite the same as templates would be. I'm hoping when the Advanced Alert Manager fully moves to the web console it will be greatly improved just like the Custom Property editor was when it moved to the console.

Another wish I have is for the time limitations to be made into a variable. Some of our Application Owners and SysAdmins want some Nodes only alerted on at certain times or days of the week. This makes it cumbersome since we have to now create a new alert with the days/time that they want instead of just being able to change it per Node or Application. Using the Unmanage Schedule utility isn't realistic because we still want statistic collection done on the node, we just don't always want an alert on it.

I know this was from a year ago, but I'm using NPM 11.5 RC4, and this idea would be really nifty. My vision would be something like when you go to "add action" under alerts, you could select an action that has already been created. We create some actions that apply to multiple alerts and it would be helpful to just select a pre-existing action for the alerts.

Please, please, please give us the ability to define groups of email addresses so we just choose a group to send to rather than manually updating hundreds of alerts every time a team changes

You can already do this, and have always been able to as far as I know. Read my reply two above yours.
