The Process Monitors for Application Components have out of the box monitoring for thresholds for:
- CPU
- Physical Memory
- Virtual Memory
- I/O Read
- I/O Write
- I/O Total
- Process Count
But there's only the ability to define thresholds for:
- CPU
- Physical Memory
- Virtual Memory
- I/O Read
- I/O Write
- I/O Total
You'll notice that Process Count is missing. It would be nice to also put in thresholds for that particular metric (which is stored in Orion.APM.ProcessEvidenceChart). There are work-arounds (older example / newer example), but none of them can rely on the standard "Warning" and "Critical" metric definitions and need to be created one-by-one. This can (and will) increase the number of crafted alerts which, in turn, increases the overhead and care-and-feeding of a system.
My personal recommendation would be to have this at the top of the list (above CPU Utilization) and have it look something like this:
