Have any of you setup remote monitoring for a client behind a firewall? Is there a way to setup software of some sort to push notifications of failed or stopped services to our solarwinds server?
Thank you for any help you can provide.
Is it possible to ask you client to allow traffic through the firewall to and from your Monitoring wan ip address.
If you can then you can monitor your clients infrastructure via snmp on port 161 and 162 will allow snmp traps through.

This doc has all ports: http://www.solarwinds.com/documentation/Orion/docs/SolarWindsPortRequirements.pdf
As for push notifications, I don't know, a separate poller on the customers site but that is still has to get back to your solarwinds server,
back to needing ports opening and maybe not the cheapest solution depending on the size of the client.
Any of the guys from Sentinel Technologies could comment on this since it's the foundation of a service they sell (, I'm looking at you!). But the upshot is that this (setting up a VPN from you to them, monitoring through it, etc) is very do-able.
If you don't get a response, friend me, direct message me, and I'll talk you through it.
