Assign Custom Properties to Thin Wireless Access Points on Cisco Wireless Controllers

There is a very limited amount of customization and filtering available to Thin Wireless Access Points. I'd like to be able to assign Custom Properties to Thin APs themselves, so i can filter some APs out for certain users, and create reports for specific Thin APs that have that tag set.

Until that feature comes along, do you have a work around? I name our AP's with everything we need to filter for reports or configurations. In my environment, AP's have the following name format:

Region-Site-Floor/Room-optional Department-optional Hallway indicator (just the nearest room number followed by an H)-designator-number. It's useful for tracking down the physical location of an AP--some of which are hidden above ceiling tiles for special security needs.

An example name: D-AJAX-RM61234-Maint-04

D=The Region of the country this site is in

Ajax= Site name, but could also indicate the city's name, if we have only one facility in that city.

RM61234= the room in which the AP is located. The 6 indicates it's on sixth floor, 1234 is the actual room.

Maint=Maintenance Department

04= This is the 4th AP in room 61234. We begin numbering AP's (when there are more than one in the same room) at the door and go round the perimeter of the room. If the room is so large that there are AP's in its center, they'll have a "C" at the end to indicate that.

Names can be as complex or as simple as needed to get the job done.

I was lucky to choose this naming convention fourteen years ago; now that we have several thousand AP's, it would be tedious to rename each one.

Some benefits from this name format:

I's easy to place AP's in the right rooms in a HEAT Map.
It's also easy for users to tell us where they're having problems.
RTLS is easier to use when the AP has its location built into its name.
Security can respond more quickly and accurately to a problem wireless device when it's associated to an AP whose name indicates its physical location.
