Dead Reservations - Case # 18675 - Finding Dead DHCP Reserved IP Addresses

I am looking for a way to report on all DHCP Reservations in a scope that have not had a ICMP Echo Reply recieved on.

In the scope under "last response" the IP address that has been reserved in DHCP displays the date of the Last scan, whether or not it has received an ICMP Echo Reply, this is obviously because the IP is reserved in DHCP.

We have a Lot of Dead Reservations in DHCP that I would like to get rid of and having the data for the last time that IP address received an ICMP Echo Reply. Similar to transient IP for non reserved IP addresses.

As you consider this feature request, realize that some organizations' devices will not respond to ICMP due to security considerations. I understand those few exceptions are not what you're looking to discover--although reporting on them MIGHT be useful, too--just to ensure that addresses which are supposed to be firewalled away from ICMP actually ARE firewalled, and are not responding to ICMP.

I like the idea. It's sort of a permutation on how IPAM can discover & report stale DNS entries.

Yes, These are Scopes that have devices that all do respond to ICMP. Our workstation policies are centrally managed, and globally ICMP is allowed though the workstation's firewall. also the IPAM server IP address is part of our Local firewall tech-support rule, which allows ICMP.

side note:

The devices that don't allow a Echo Reply are all located in specific Subnets and are not manage through DHCP. Managed through ARP tables

"on how IPAM can discover & report stale DNS entries." you make this statement like it is possible, but I can't find a simple way to do this. Got any feedback? The data is there, but can't get a valid report to work.
