Event Log monitor / IP v9 and NT 4 Compatibility Mode option

I'm attempting to use the Event Log monitor to track event log messages. For me to be alerted, I needed to enable "Enable Windows NT 4 Compatibility Mode option". If I didn't enable the checkbox, when I ran the Preview, which shows "Scenerios", no results were returned.
