By default even if you have accurate "show version" within NCM device template, it is not used to fill the Node "Software Version" field.
We are missing important information like SN for non Cisco devices (eg. Riverbed Steelhead, F5 ... .).
Having possibility to have Universal device Poller included in NCM would allow us to poll desired information and update existing of custom field.
This way you could ensure exhaustive inventory reports independently of device vendor. Current inventory capability is too limited.
