IP SLA

Hi, I hope this makes sense - I would like to know if it is possible and how to manually add an IP SLA for a network that is not routable from the solarwinds server, the switch is accessible via a different IP address on another interface. I want to query an IP SLA that uses a different ip source address and target through the existing node on the same switch.

What type of IP SLA operation are you trying to create?

The scenario you described is possible today as long as the source is an Orion node. You can specify the the source IP for the operation, even if it's different than the default IP that Orion knows about. For certain operations you can specify an external target (meaning it doesn't have to be an Orion node). We will also be implementing functionality in the next release that will allow you to specify the IP on the target node of an IP SLA operation.

If the device is not routeable (not reachable) then this cannot be done. The NPM server must have IP access to the RTTMON MIB on the IP SLA source device in order to retrieve IP SLA results.

Thanks mcbridea, our solarwinds servers can talk to the switch on vlan interface A however it does not know about vlan interface B for security reasons which is the source address of the IP SLA. My question is - even though we can send SNMP gets to the vlan interface A how do we monitor the IP SLA on vlan interface B when it is not routable or can't this be done.

The IP SLA data for any interface on a device is reachable in the device RTTMON MIB. You may have to set up the IP SLA operation manually and then add it to IP SLA Manager.
