Maint
by Roger on Tue Dec 11, 2007 11:07 am
Before this last year I had been using Dameware just on the job, then decided to purchase my own license (Ver 5 at the time). I did the Maint agreement thing too which was a pretty good deal since shortly after Ver 6 came out and I got it too then. I need to clarify some stuff though since mine is coming due soon. On the sales page it gives the description: "The maintenance agreement provides for one calendar year of free updates and upgrades of the DameWare product you purchased.".
So, does this mean when mine runs out that any further updates to Ver 6 I won't be able to get? Or since I have 6 am I entitled to get updates to it, but wouldn't get version 7 like I did with 6 and the latest Version 6 will be as far as I go? I would think any updates for Ver 6...especially if it is security or bug related I should get...
I'm just trying to figure things out because it is sort of a gamble. Right now 6 does everything I need other than maybe a better file manager and chat capabilities which has been in the works for some time now (Will they be done for Ver 6 or is that going to be Ver 7?) There is no telling really when Ver 7 would be out too. Early on I would have said a while, but the sub version numbers for 6 are growing pretty quick.

Hi Roger,
Sorry...there are a several of us in Sales and things are boomin' here! We LOVE it! Thanks for all the nice things you said about our software...comments like that keep our developer going and makes our job more fun, if that's possible!!!
To answer your question, maintenance on your licenses cover them for updates and upgrades. However, if you are in a specific version (example v.6.X) and your maintenance expires and is not renewed, you're still entitled to all updates of that version (right up to v. 7). If you would then like to advance to v.7, you would be able to take the upgrade path, which will always be less expensive than purchasing new licenses but more expensive than the cost of maintenance would have been. We highly advise purchasing maintenance since the cost of maintenance is minimal compared to the cost of upgrades. If you have multiple licenses (10 or more) I'll talk until I'm "blue in the face" to convince you to purchase maintenance. But it's strictly optional.
Let me know if you have any more questions...I'll do my best to answer them! Thanks for taking the time to write on our forum. I'm pretty new at this and hopefully will be able to keep up with you guys who are "Forum Savvy!"
Thanks, again, Roger for your questions...Have a Wonderful Christmas and Safe New Year!
Kristi

Ok, that is what I figured it worked like. Yes, $18 vs. $50 is a much better deal. I can almost get 3 years for the price of an upgrade. I was mostly making sure just in case I can't get it. Bad time for renewals with all the other expenses. If possible I'll get it before the 30days are up, but if I'm unable to I at least wanted to make sure I was good for all of Version 6.
Thanks,
Roger
