NCM showing changes every day Cisco 1700 series

Hi,

I'm just dipping my toes in the water with NCM and have hit a problem. I've added a 1700 series router and every time the config is downloaded it is reporting a change. looking into the report there is a difference between the startup and running configs but the only difference is the first two lines as shown below. What's the workaround for this sort of thing please?

Edit - have written config and that's made no difference.

You can define what text gets "excluded" in the Comparison Criteria section of NCM settings- it uses Regular Expressions to define certain strings to ignore. The ! Last and ! NVRAM lines should actually be in there already, though possibly turned off by default.

Great, that's just what I was looking for . We're running an older version of Solarwinds at present and those options weren't enabled by default.

So - now I've added some HP switches and have a similar problem.

I've tried creating a rule based on the ! Last and ! NVRAM ones but it doesn't seem to be working.

Try it without the carot at the front?

I think (and the key word is think, I'm no great shakes at RegEx) that the carot refers to a newline code, and since there isn't a new line with it being the start of the config file, it may be looking for a new line to come before the words.

Let me know if that works. Beyond that I'm not terribly sure if I'd actually have an answer beyond "play around with it and hope the gods of RegEx smile on you"

The carrot at the front means the start of a string (beginning of the line), so if they happen to see any spaces between the start of the line and the word Running then it would not get ignored. From the looks of the picture they have attached it appears that the Startup Configuration line was ignored in the previous comparison criteria and the Running Configuration line was ignored in the new configuration. You may want to make another rule for the Startup Configuration line as well if you do not already have one in there.
