Is it possible to monitor IIS6.0 SMTP server?

So we have an SMTP relay running in IIS6.0 on our Intranet host, after discovering it for the first time I realised we have no way to monitor if it's been stopped.

I've tried monitoring a service but the SMTPSVC doesn't stop when that virtual server is stopped. I haven't found anything in event viewer for when I manually stop it and restart it which I could alert on.

I've got the IIS6.0 application set up on the node, alas it doesn't see this SMTP Virtual Server. Is there anyway I can get alerted for when this is stopped?

I haven't seen that problem with stopping the virtual sever. I monitor both the service and port 25, and I haven't seen missed alerts. There are also several perfmon counters you could monitor. Look in the Content Exchange here, there are some sample SAM templates.

Agree, a "TCP Port monitor component" could be an easy starter here.

I'd be more concerned as to why you're still running IIS 6 but that's just me

Of course, any suggestions for SMTP smart hosts which will work with OAuth2.0? We're using it to relay our internal systems out to O365.

Are you concerned about reputation or just needing to be able to relay to 365 securely?
