How do I access nodes using Putty SSH from SolarWinds Node Page?

Hi

I have been trying to get these buttons working on our node page's in SolarWinds

I want to be able to SSH using putty when the SSH session button is clicked. I have read the following article and browser integration is enabled and still nothing happens. Is there something I'm missing to get this sorted?

Thanks. I have actually managed to sort this out. I registered a new protocol to the Windows registry called SSH. I then created a batch file that can take the strings in such as "ssh://example.com" and pass them onto putty. I then pointed that registry entry to the batch file. You have to strip the "ssh://" from the front of the text passed to putty as it cannot deal with arguments that start with "ssh://".

Here is how I created the reg entry. This is under the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT".

You can create a text file and paste the following into it, save it as a .reg file and the merge it into your registry. This will create the Registry structure for you.

Within the SSH folder there are two strings. Please see how they are laid out below

Then in the "command" folder, here is how it is laid out. I put my .bat file in the PuTTY folder on my C drive just to keep everything together. You can move this to any location on your device, just make sure to update the data in the (Default) string, under the command folder.

Once the Registry portion is set up, you can test if it is working by clicking the SSH icon on your Node page in Solarwinds

This should open a prompt like this on your browser. To get rid of this prompt, we can create a .exe using iexpress, which is a windows tool for packaging scripts into a .exe format. You can then update the registry entry to point to the .exe.

Now we need to create the .BAT file. Below is what I have written to get this to work. Paste this into a text file and save it as a .BAT. You can then package as a .EXE if you want to get rid of the above prompt.

Just a note. Make sure that you have placed the file in the correct folder so that the Registry can find where the .BAT is.

Once this has been saved, you should now be able to open ssh links in PuTTY
