How to correctly set up a text alert in Solarwinds for SQL Failover?

Hi, for a while now I've been trying to figure out how to correctly configure an alert in Solarwinds so it texts database team when our primary SQL node fails over to our secondary node.

In the trigger actions for this alert I am using 'Configure Action: Execute an External Program' which runs a batch file located on our polling server which should send a text to their personal phone numbers from a system called GovNotify. We use this system for other text alerts from other software we use.

I'm just hoping anyone who sees this has any ideas for me to try or knows where I'm going wrong? I've been trying to sort this for 7-8 months now and gotten as close as the alert working but it sent the text 7 hours after the nodes failed over (this only occured once). I've tried to contact Solarwinds and Prosperon about this but never managed to find a functional fix unfortunately but they were really helpful.

Any help would be super appreciated!

*I posted this in NPM forum too probably was the wrong place for this - I was guided to check alert logs on the polling servers and the triggered alerts in Solarwinds and no alert was ever triggered, our SQL servers were patched today so the alert should have been triggered then

If you have SAM possibly use a SAM template to look for error 1676 in the System log? Then just create alert for it under Manage Alerts and then create an alert action send the text part.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I think I may have tried this in the past but not with that error code.

How would you suggest setting the alert up without any trigger conditions though if this acts as the condition? I feel like if this is similar to what I've done in the past this is separate from what you can set up in the alert itself?

This is the logic I am using in my SQL Replication alert, which is driven by the SAM template above. Once the alert is created you can send the email directly from SolarWinds as an alert action and you don't need an external email script.

If you are trying to use external scripts in your alert actions, there is a security setting you may need to enable in the database.

RDP into your main polling engine and launch Database Manager.

There is a query you can run to see if your powershell script is allowed to run.

If you have sufficient rights to edit the database, you can click Enable table editing and checkmark the Approved box.
