Thoughts on Hybrid Cloud Observability (HCO) vs. Perpetual Licensing – A Discussion
While working with SolarWinds, I've been comparing Hybrid Cloud Observability (HCO) with the Perpetual license model . One thing that stands out is the subscription-based nature of HCO, in contrast to the perpetual licensing many of us are familiar with.
This shift raises some key considerations:
Companies relying on perpetual licenses may feel the pressure if they don’t have active vendor support.
That said, investing in skilled SolarWinds administrators can still enable organizations to manage things efficiently without always needing vendor intervention.
From a personal standpoint, I’ve started wondering if this transition to a subscription model might impact the job security of in-house admins and engineers in the long run.
I've been using HCO for months now and genuinely respect its capabilities — but I'm curious to hear what fellow Thwackers think about this evolving model.
How do you see this shift impacting your organization or your role?
Is the subscription model beneficial in the long term or does it introduce new risks?
Looking forward to your thoughts and insights!
