Is anyone out there using NCM for complete management of switches/routers/etc? I am considering replacing our existing tool with NCM.
Struggles with existing toolset:
- Very weak compliance: Config is globally defined via a template, however it can be overridden on the device without notification. It can also be overridden in the CLI without notice.
- Doesn't support all functions: There are some features that my switches support that the management tool doesn't have buttons for (Radsec or detailed spanning tree configs for example). We then have to put these things in via CLI, which goes back to point 1.
- RBAC extra limited
I already have my switches in SW for config backup today.
My goal is to have a set config on all of my devices and KNOW WITH CERTAINTY, that the compliance is being followed, or being called our when it isn't. And when I have to make new template changes, I can make them centrally and know they're applied. If this works so well, I'd like to be able to remove CLI access from my admins and all access would go through SW.
would love to hear thoughts, opinions, and experiences.
