DPA - where to find Administrator account

Greeting All.

I have inherited an installation of DPA with DPAIM configured. However, it appears that some metrics do not transfer successfully from my one DPA instance into SAM - AppInsight for SQL (such as top fragmented indexes).

I suspect that I need to unregister and re-register my server in DPAIM.

DPA documentation discusses a 'DPA Administrator' account. I have no idea what is the DPA Administrator account, but I suspect it was set up by a previous admin, now long gone.

I welcome any inputs from the community on where I can find the 'DPA Administrator' account.

P.S. I have an account that I use to log into the DPA console and, in the console, can register and un-register SQL instances. Would that be the same as the 'DPA Administrator' account?

If you go to Options -> User Administration, do you see all DPA users? Is AD/LDAP integration setup and mapped to security groups?

If you have access, look for what role you have been assigned as well as what the repo owner is.

I would start more basic here as you may not know a login or anything for this DPA install. If you know the URL of the DPA system and that alone it is usually the hostname of the server hosting the application. That is unless someone had put a CNAME or DNS entry in place. If you find that the DPA application server is a Windows server the service on windows that runs the DPA site is "Ignite PI Server" right clicking that and selecting properties you should see a path it is running from up to a tomcat\bin folder. Find the tomcat path and go to tomcat\ignite_config\idc\repo.properties This file contains the connection to DPA's database and the user listed would also be the base DPA Administrator. If you don't know the password to that account as it should be encrypted in the file you can reset it both in the file and in the database it links to Change the DPA repository password. If you find DPA's application server is Linux the process is the same but, try running this command to find where DPA is running from for the path "ps -ef | grep dpa"

Yep, actually I've picked around quite a bit in DPA the last few months, so all of the navigation described is familiar to me.

In the past for some reason a lot of our AppInsight SQL and DPA monitoring was set up to run on the SQL 'sa' account (before my time). We know that using the system account is bad best practice. I've been working with our DBA to get 'sa' out of the monitoring picture. I think we have our AI SQL monitoring running on a non-sa account set up for that purpose. Now time to tackle DPA.
