2025.2 - Mib database disappeared

I updated from 2025.1.1 to 2025.2 the other day and it blew away the mib database. I did open a ticket and it is now being treated as a bug. Used this workaround to get it re-installed (resolution 2), didn't seem to work at first, but started functioning properly after nightly maintenance.

How I caught it was looking at traps coming in, we utilize some alerts from traps and missed a non-critical alert, this is what I found..

This is a known issue, should be fixed in a Service Release for 2025.2 some time soon. In the mean time as posted, you can follow:

Overview:

During the installation of the MIBs database update, you might encounter the following error message:

SolarWinds MIBs vx.x.x.xxxxx Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again. Click the Finish button to exit the Setup Wizard.

Environment:

SWOES - Network Performance Monitor 2025.2;SWO - Network Performance Monitor 2025.2;NPM 2025.2

Cause:

This issue occurs when one of the following conditions is true:

The file “C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\MIBs.cfg“ or “C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\MIBs.db“ is being held by a running process.
The file “C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\MIBs.db“ was accessed during the MIBs database upgrade process.
All SolarWinds Services are not shutdown properly

Resolution:

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

Stop any service that is blocking access to MIBs.cfg or MIBs.db file. This is typically the SolarWinds Orion Module Engine.
- If the problem persists, it is recommended to stop all SolarWinds services
If file “C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\MIBs.db“ exists but has a size of 0 bytes, delete it.
Run the MIBs installer again as administrator

Alternatively, please try the following steps::

Open up an Administrative Command prompt and run this command, replacing the path to where your MIBsv2.msi is.
msiexec /i "C:\path\to\package.msi"

Had same issue yesterday, from the article linked only msiexec /i "C:\path\to\package.msi" would work. trying to run the msi even with all services stopped kept failing.
