Server Upgrade (no NTA)

Our server team is upgrading from 2016 to 2022. We upgraded the SQL Server without issue. Today I plan on doing the application server (NPM, NTA, IPAM, SAM), I plan on following this document: https://documentation.solarwinds.com/en/success_center/orionplatform/content/migrate_solarwinds_to_a_new_server_using_the_same_ip_and_hostname.htm

My issue is when I do the fresh install it asks me to create a database for NTA. We dont use NTA (and I don’t have rights on the SQL Server to create a new DB). Is there an install option that allows me to select the components I’m installing? As always thanks!!

Hi @tpfannes , yes you always have to have all three databases: Main, Flow and Logs. Even if you don't use those features. Everything is installed and the features you license will be made available to you. You can't choose to only install some components.

If you are migrating and will reuse the old databases, you should not create any new databases. Just point the Config wizard on the existing databases

The option to choose or opt out of any module that you are not licensed for is unfortunately removed, this feature is available only for SolarWinds Platform 2020.2.6 and below. Starting SolarWinds Platform 2022.* and above, all the modules are installed on the SolarWinds application server, also 3 databases are required to be created: SolarWindsOrion database (which you should already have), NTA database (even if you are not using NTA, this is required to get created already, but if you are not using NTA, this should not be a problem it just needs to be created.) LA/OLV database (Log Analyzer/Orion Log Viewer is a replacement of the legacy Syslogs and Traps, which requires having its own database as well.)

This is unfortunately by design and you need to coordinate this with your SQL DBAs so they can grant your SolarWinds Service accounts the correct SQL Permissions, best to assign sa, then you can remove the sa privilege after the upgrade and retain the other permissions in the article.

You can open a support ticket if issue persist, Provide screenshots of issue/error, date and time this was first encountered and SolarWinds diagnostics to expedite resolution.
