When I click a specific CISCO 4331 ISR router it shows Node Details for ASA ***Caption***, Is there a way to fix this?
Hi @SolarWindNoob
You (or an administrator) can edit the default view by device type in your settings page.

If a device IP was reused (e.g., ASA replaced by ISR using same IP), SolarWinds may have merged or overwritten data under the same NodeID.
This often happens if "Allow duplicate node names" is off and nodes are added by IP without distinct DNS or SNMP Hostname.
SolarWinds uses the SysObjectID (from SNMP) to assign machine type and device views.
If the SysObjectID is unknown or misclassified (e.g., due to SNMP misreporting), it may incorrectly assign the wrong View or Caption.
Someone may have manually assigned a custom view or caption to the node in the database or web UI.
If the Caption is manually changed to something static (like "ASA"), SolarWinds doesn’t auto-update it even if the device changes.
Go to Node Details → Node Info → SysObjectID
Compare it with:
Cisco 4331 ISR: Should be something like 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.2177
1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.2177
Cisco ASA: Might show as 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.669 or similar
1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.669
If it's wrong:
Re-poll the node via Node → Poll Now
Make sure the SNMP credentials match the current device
Go to the node, click Edit Node
Update the Caption field to reflect the ISR's correct hostname or identifier
Check if "Dynamic Caption" (from DNS or SNMP) is enabled, or if it's manually overridden
Go to Settings → Manage Nodes → [Select Node]
Scroll to “Web View” setting
If it’s set to a custom ASA view, change it to the default Node Details – Summary View
Go to Manage Nodes
Search by IP, hostname, or caption
Remove any duplicate or stale ASA entry that may still be monitored under the same IP
If above fails, do this:
Delete the node in SolarWinds (after confirming it’s not linked to critical alerts or history)
Re-add it manually:
Use DNS name if possible (not just IP)
Confirm correct SNMP credentials
Confirm SysObjectID and device type are correct
