Dashboard

I'm very new to Solarwinds so bear with me.

I'm in the process of making af Modern Dashboard to monitor som PLC's. I have grouped the nodes (1-2 nodes each) together in groups and wanted to make some logic.

Fx: PLCgrp01 contains 2 nodes. A hot and a cold. So when Node 1 is up the dashboard tile should be green. If both is up or both is down, it should be red. How do I come around to do that?

Hi hr2mas. Based on how you're explaining the dashboard it sounds like you're dealing with a KPI widget. If that's the case what you're looking for is something like this, correct?

If you all you need to do is edit the KPI threshold so that it looks something like this.

Absolutely!! But to be 100% transparent, this is all based off of work that other people have posted on Thwack. There are some amazing dashboards that other people have posted. All I've done is taken their hard work and tweaked it to fit my environment.

So for the example I posted earlier it consists of 2 SWQL queries which are:

SELECT COUNT(NodeID) AS myCount
FROM Orion.nodes n
WHERE (n.status = 2)
AND n.Vendor = 'Cisco' and (n.DisplayName like 'XXXX%' or n.DisplayName like 'YYYY%')

Simply swap out the XXXX & YYYY with your standard naming schema that matches routers. You can repeat by centering around a standard switch naming schema or Nexus naming schema.

The firewall example is even simpler, it's just:

SELECT
COUNT(NodeID) AS myCount
FROM Orion.nodes n

WHERE (n.status = 2) AND (n.MachineType like 'Palo Alto%')

Again, you can swap out the MachineType for darn near anything that fits you need. Once you have your baseline it's a matter of wash, rinse & repeat.

If you're looking for a status table, then here's a nice simple SWQL query to get you started. Depending on who's looking at the dashboard they may want to actually see what's down.

SELECT
n.Caption
, n.Status
, n.Category
, n.Detailsurl
FROM Orion.Nodes n
WHERE (Status = 2 AND n.Vendor = 'Cisco') and (n.DisplayName like 'XXXX%' or n.DisplayName like 'YYYY%')
WITH NOLOCK

If you go this route, you may want to configure the columns like this.

ok - right so i have 118 net_snmp devices up but when using the query to see how many are online is only showing 45 of these

SELECT
COUNT(NodeID) AS myCount
FROM Orion.nodes n
WHERE (n.status = 1) AND (n.MachineType like 'net-snmp%')

My count 45

so- can you have the swql to do the following MachineType like 'Red Hat Enterprise Linux & (n.MachineType like 'net-snmp' ? in one query ?
