Orion Intelligent map is not showing the automatic connections

Hello All,

We are trying to create intelligent maps for all the sites in our environment. While creating we were able to see automatic connections for some switches and firewalls and for some, the connections are not even showing up.

We have tried raising the case with Solarwinds but everytime we get different answers. First they say, our switches are connected to VIP and that's the reason we can see only one connection to a single firewall and the other say there is an issue with the network configuration on the Firewalls.I tried enabling the unknown L2 and L3's and I am able to see the unknown connections here. But what needs to be done? I have seen in some forums that the unknown interface needs to be monitoring on the other end, but which interface? Because all the interfaces are already enabled at the switch end.

Can someone please help on this?

There is an advanced option that needs to be turned on. I can't find it right now but solarwinds support should ensure that is enabled.

We are experiencing a similar thing,

i've even enabled cdp/lldp but still the solarwinds app fails to identify the connected nodes.

Anywhere there is a Firewall or Load balancer of similar datacentre tech involved then auto-mapping starts to fail.
This is an issue across the board with mapping tech, regardless of whom (I've seen identical issues with WhatsUp Gold and other similar NMS's).

Auto Mappers work great where it is a simple router to switch to another switch, etc type environment. But as soon as you throw in anything that messes with security, or VIPs you will hit snags. The only solution I've found in over a decade of this mess (again, whichever NMS you use) is to manually map the links you need / want.

Hello,

you need to turn on LLDP/CDP on your devices. All interfaces you want to connect must be included in NPM management. All LLDP/CDP neighbors must be visisible on device.

It is necessary to create new SNMP view in device configuration too. I foud that it is necessary start at ISO level of the SNMP tree. (cisco : snmp-server view ALL iso included / huawei : snmp-agent mib-view included iso-view iso atc.)

L2 (L3) topology + Vlan monitoring in node resources enabled.

Sometimes it is necessary to change device software - we have several versions of IOS or Huawei OS wich do not offer valid topology data for NPM.

But finally, sometimes it does not work at all. We have several devices wich deny to create good topology connection whithin NPM. Especially if there is a device with etherchannel connection - this totally mess up topology.

Sometimes it is necessary to delete device from NPM and create it again.

Unfortunately, there is no (I don't know of) method to delete topology data for a given Node and force a new loading of this data. I think solarwinds should add this as a build in feature, or provide a method for safely deleting topological data from the database.

Well, first, it doesn't require CDP/LLDP turned on in your devices, although that is the easiest way to get it in the topology database. It can also gather data from the ARP tables and CAM tables. Having the interfaces that connect to other devices monitored does make a difference. Make sure you have the topology L2 and L3 enabled on List Resources. More info here:
