High Availability HA Setup: Failover using Windows Domain Controller or F5 load balancer

Hello Thwack Community:

Throwing this out to the community....we have two issues trying to setup our HA. We currently have 1 primary poller plus 3 APEs.

Issues:

When utilizing Windows Domain Controllers, SolarWinds needs to have a service account that has “Global domain rights”. Our Domain Controller admins are not fond of giving such rights to service accounts because of the high risk. Is it necessary for the HA application to use a "Global Admin" domain account?
SolarWinds has also advised us that we could use F5s as a way to failover automatically. Where can I find specific and detailed explanation and instructions on how to deploy it using this method.

Has anyone had to deal with this problem/issue?

My HA does not have global domain rights. It can update DNS records. I followed: Set up a SolarWinds Platform High Availability pool
What guide are you looking at?

Oh wow, that's interesting. From the documentation and discussions I had with SolarWinds, we will need to have a DNS account that can "write" to the domain controllers when it fails over to the other pool members.

I'll read up on your link / documentation to see if I misunderstood something. Thanks.

You can also create a subdomain. I didn't want that account to be able to modify the base AD domain so I created solarwinds.your.corp. and gave it permissions there. Now that is only for my polling engine HA, the web site HA is through an F5 load balancer.
