Hey everyone,
I was looking for a best practice document on monitoring a Windows Failover Cluster running Hyper-V and couldn't really find one. So I was curious how you guys go about monitoring it. We have a couple hosts in the cluster and have a couple Clustered Shared Volumes setup for the VMs.
I built out the host nodes as normal in SolarWinds, but I only grabbed the base OS drive on them. I then setup a node pointed to the cluster name and removed the C drive, CPU/Memory, and Networking from the system, on this I did grab the CSV volumes. I hate to have duplicate alerts in the environment, so I'd prefer to not be grabbing the various CSV volumes on each host as each would be presenting the same information. Grabbing the volume information on a single host wouldn't work as well, in the event that host goes down.
The downside to this approach, is SolarWinds is adding the cluster node as a detected Hyper-V host and clutters up the view a bit. So in the VIM page, I see the Cluster name, the 4 nodes under that, and then an additional entry of the host that currently has ownership.
