Hi Friends,
I am struggling to build a SolarWinds lab setup at home on my personal PC for learning purpose with a network device and a server. Can i seek help from the experts here to build the same. Thank you.
The software is designed to run on Windows Server 2016 and up. Have you tried setting up a virtual machine on your laptop and installing it on a valid Server OS? If that is not possible, try getting a personal cloud account set up and spinning the server up in the cloud.
VMware workstation is free for personal use now, can use that or Oracle VirtualBox to setup a home lab.
Hi, I have configured 3 servers in GCP as below using trial version:
1. One windows server: Installed SW application using trial version.
2. One Ubuntu server: I have installed GNS3 in this.
3. One windows server: Configured to access GNS3 GUI from this server.
Now, in my Sw console, i am able to add these 3 servers but i cannot establish connection with router configured in GNS3 to SolarWinds. Is there any way that some one can help me in getting a network device into my lab please? Thank you.
Hi! Just by curiosity, what hardware resources has you needed for this setup?
Hello, maybe this can help: (+) Need an advise to integrate Orion and GNS3 - General - The SolarWinds Platform - THWACK
Depends, Single VM hosting polling engine and the SQL Express edition. 8 ~ 16 Gig memory,You can get free access to the cloud test lab instead.
Assuming your going with Virtuals, VMWare Workstation or Oracle VirtualBox. You firstly need the memory to allocate, say 32gb, 64gb better but not needed. One lesson learned I will tell you is where you will get the most contention (depending on the number of Virtuals you create in your lab, (Domain Controller, Database Server, SolarWinds Server, Test Server, etc.), get multiple SSD's. The contention will be mostly around your storage, thus the recommendation on multiple (smaller) SSD's.
