Assigning an Alert to a Server Node

Question

Hi

Can someone please assist me with how I can add/assign a new Alert to a current Server Node?

I have created some custom alerts from within the Node Details  Summary page via "Management section", but when I have completed the enabling of the alert I cannot see it under the "All Alerts this Object can trigger" section.

I assume this is where I would expect to see the active alerts for this node? - If I'm missing something can somebody please help me as I'm losing the will to live!

I'm a Full admin so not a permissions issue either.

stevenstadel answered the question, and yes go upvote the feature request he linked... BUT...

my advice is to give up on "All Alerts this Object can trigger".  I don't say this because Soalrwinds is an inferior product and they just can't figure it out.  Quite the opposite.  You'll be creating nodes, SAM monitors and alerts and all is good for a while... then you will run into a complex situation.  With an inferior product the answer would just be "no we cannot do that", but because solarwinds is so customizable you will be able to find a way, usually with custom SWQL statement.  It will always be impossible (or at least unreliable) to get a custom SWQL alert to show up in the "all alerts this object can trigger".  It's just the nature of the beast.

Second piece of advice:  As you go along creating alerts, you'll have the thought, "This would be easier if I could just put all of these in a group and put that group in the alert conditions..." DON'T do it.  Look into custom properties.  It's more work to get started and to understand, but it's 100% worth it.

You don't assign alerts to nodes. Alerts are a query that checks the database for a specific set of conditions. "All alerts this Object can trigger" was created for Nodes, Interfaces, and Volumes. That said you can check to make sure the alert you created will apply to what you want. Make sure you are using the scope part of the trigger condition and click "Show List" to verify that the element you want to be included is.
