Detailed Statistics Retention - What is required to increase the amount of Detailed statistics?

Hello, 

When looking at graphs for our servers CPU, Network, etc, we sometimes like to look at 30+ days back and see statistical data down to the minute, but it is summarized into hourly statistics after the 21 days. The "Detailed Statistics Retention" database setting is set to 21 days before showing hourly statistics and we would like to increase that date, but I am unsure of the repercussions of doing so. 

What is needed to increase this number to say 32 days? 

What is the calculation needed to figure out how much extra storage space we will need? 

Will we need to increase memory, vCPUs, etc? 

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You will be storing more information in the database. To estimate how much more you can take a look at the table size of the detail tables and estimate adding another third. To see the table size go to Settings - All Settings - Database Details - Database Statistics and search for detail to show the tables used for detail statistics. Since you are not increasing the polling you should not need to adjust memory or CPU on your pollers, but YMMV so keep an eye on your baselines and adjust as needed on the pollers and DB server.

The great thing about using the tool to monitor itself is you can watch and see what your changes make to the storage, cpu, and memory over time and use that data to adjust.
