List Resources no longer shows Interfaces

Hi All,

We have recently run into an issue on the latest 2024.4.0 NPM where the List Resources doesn't show any interfaces on a certain manufactures device.

Is it possible to add interfaces manually?

All my snmp details are correct and i can do a Walk via SNMP software however Solarwinds just returns the Node Details and Status selections.

Any help would be appreciated.

Raise a vendor support case, this isn't normal behavior.

We are on 2024.4.0 and it works for us.

Is it for any specific Vendor and Machine Type? Perhaps we have the same and I can check?

I also know that in the past I've had issues with listing interfaces and it was due to clock drift on the APE/polling engine they are managed via.

Hello stuartd , in my case I have the problem in version 2024.4.0 for HUAWEI vendor, mostly AR Series machines, the snmpwalk brings the interfaces well.

The ops question was over 7 months ago and several versions have been released since. It could be that they were on a different version, but here are the steps I'd take:

check SNMP works via the TEST button in 'edit properties'
if the node(s) are managed by an APE check the clocks on the APE and Master poller are within 5m of each other.
ensure all necessary services are started on all pollers and APE's
if on an older version, then upgrade to a newer release e.g. 2025.1.1

You could also try rebooting your estate and failing all the above, open a ticket.`

If it continues then I suggest you open your own thread on this, as this one is over 7mths old. And if you do then provide as much information as you can, what you've tried, what version, what module, etc?

SolarWinds heavily relies on standard MIB/OID definitions to discover and monitor interfaces, especially those OIDs that are saved already in our MIB database. If the device's MIBs aren't fully supported or differ slightly from standard MIBs SolarWinds expects, interfaces may fail to populate.

Questions:

Was this working before on previous version?
Is this only happening to Huawei AR series devices? Or are there other affected devices?
- Is this only happening to a few Huawei AR series devices or for all? Is this also happening to other Huawei devices?
Are you using SNMPv2c or SNMPv3 for full compatibility?
- Have you validated the OIDs?
- Have you checked the Huawei AR series device configuration if it is adjusted to expose standard OIDs or if it has its own non-standard/new OIDs?
Have you updated the SolarWinds MIB already? Is it still the same?
Have you tried using Universal Device Poller or Custom Poller?

Troubleshooting and Workarounds:

Confirm SNMP Compatibility:
- Check SNMP Version:
  Ensure you're using SNMPv2c or SNMPv3 for full compatibility.OID Support Validation:
  Use a third-party SNMP tool (like SolarWinds SNMP Walk Tool or Paessler SNMP Tester) to verify these OIDs are available and responding:

ifTable - 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2
ifXTable - 1.3.6.1.2.1.31.1.1
```
  These tables must return data; if they do, then the issue is compatibility-specific in SolarWinds.
SolarWinds Compatibility Update (MIBs)
- Update the SolarWinds MIB database:
  Download and apply the latest SolarWinds MIB database update from your Customer Portal: https://customerportal.solarwinds.com
- After applying the MIBs:
  - Restart SolarWinds services or run the Configuration Wizard again.
  - Try the List Resources action once more.
Manual Interface Addition (Workaround)
- Direct manual addition of interfaces through the GUI (bypassing discovery) is not directly supported. However, you can manually poll interface OIDs using UnDP (Universal Device Poller) and treat them as custom metrics:
  Step-by-step for manual interface polling via UnDP:
  - Go to Universal Device Poller: (Start → SolarWinds → Universal Device Poller).
  - Create a new poller:
    - Use standard interface OIDs, e.g.:
      Interface Status: 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.8
      Interface In/Out Octets:
      - 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.10 (ifInOctets)
      - 1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.16 (ifOutOctets)
  - Assign pollers to the affected Huawei nodes.
  - Create custom alerts based on these UnDP data.
  Note:
  This approach gives visibility but not the full interface monitoring capability (like built-in interface status, bandwidth graphing, and auto-alerts).
Custom Device Poller via Device Studio (Recommended Approach):
- - Navigate to:
    Settings → All Settings → Node & Group Management → Manage Pollers → Create New Poller
  - Manually define your OIDs for interfaces specific to Huawei AR devices.
  - After building the custom poller, apply it to your Huawei devices.
  - Interfaces discovered this way will appear in "List Resources" and will be integrated normally into monitoring.
    For a long-term solution, SolarWinds recommends creating a custom device poller template via Device Studio:
SNMP Compatibility Configuration on Huawei:
- Occasionally, the Huawei AR series might need configuration adjustments to expose standard OIDs fully.
- Ensure the SNMP community or SNMPv3 users have sufficient privileges.
- Example Huawei config snippet (adjust per your policy):

snmp-agent community read public # or your SNMP community
snmp-agent mib-view included iso-view iso

```
